I%26#039;ve taken classical ballet since I was three. I%26#039;m going to be a senior next year and I%26#039;m considering taking lyrical instead. The main reason is because me and the classical ballet teacher at my studio have butted-heads more then enough times and she%26#039;s left me in tears on various occasions. Basically, I want to continue some form of ballet without switching studios but I don%26#039;t think I could put myself through another year with her as a teacher. She makes me miserable.
So I want to know, what do you like better, classical ballet or lyrical? I%26#039;ve sort of done lyrical ballet before in 7th grade (my ballet teacher at the time was very into more lyrical type of dances). If you could please give me a few pros and cons for each it would be wonderful! I don%26#039;t want to make a decision and regret it later, I would just like to keep my self esteem (which I don%26#039;t think I can do if I continue class with this ballet teacher).
Thanks a bunch!

I like lyrical more. It give you more freedom to express emotions while dancing.
I can relate to your story about your teacher. I would talk to her in private and tell her about how you are feeling. If she doesn%26#039;t seem to understand or want to change the way she teaches, so it is more fun and less stressful, then I would change to another class, another teacher. Hope it works out well for you!!

Lyrical is better. I%26#039;ve never done serious ballet like you, but Lyrical is just more fun.
Reply:for me i love ballet so i would have to chose that but i have never done lyrical dance. i really think you need to talk to you teacher in private about how she is making you feel and make her aware that even though you do appreciate constructive critisim that she doesn%26#039;t need to talk to you like that. good luck and hope you chose the right type of dance for you! =)
Reply:i love lyrical,, it has more emotion %26amp;%26amp; freestylikness lol...alot bettr thn ballet
Reply:Hey !
I love ballet and love lyrical too and totally understand how you feel :)
Well you should follow your heart and stay with it then you will not regret, like me setting my heart on something and i know i will not regret it :)
well lyrical is fun but you have done a bit of it , you seem much better in ballet(but i understand your ballet teacher thing)
take lyrical for a change as it could be fun
or
take ballet something you know you are good at and enjoy it :)
Reply:well i would choose classical ballet. especially if u have done it so long. classical ballet is such a beautiful art and u can express yourself through the move or you can express your character. it is very hard too and it gives me more pleasure to finally get a step after trying for so long. i would say switch schools. i totally get it though. its your senior yera. u want it to be the best. maybe your teacher is really just trying to help you. you can try to talk with heer. if that doesnt work than i would swithch schools. i wouldnt quit it because if youve done it this long then u obviously love it and maybe at first (if u quit) youd think %26#039;yeah this is soooo much better%26#039; but then eventually u will miss it greatly and after stopping for a year it is realy hard to get back into the swing of things. if ur teacher is mean then really.... i think u should switch teachers. i totally know how it feels. my teacher would be so harsh on me and i would cry in class. but then she kind of saw and she said stuff like i really have faith that u could be amazing and i really want you to do welland i care about u alot. in my mind i was back talking her but then i thought about and now i realize that gettting alot of corrections suck but it means ur teacher actually cares enough to correct u. MAYBE its like that in ur case. MAYBE. i hope i helped ::)
oh im sorry. i just realize that u dont want to switch studios. im not gonna change my answer but if its nt how i think then go to lyrical.
